New Zealand’s #1 character impressionist hit the 2011 NZ International Comedy Festival in what was his biggest stand up show yet, earning him a nomination for the Festival’s supreme award “The Fred”.
ABOUT THE SHOW
In his 4th solo Festival show People, Simon McKinney delivered his unparalleled diversity and artistry with an incredible array of new impressions born from characters that have inspired him throughout his life and career. These folk and their hilarious faults and foibles, strengths and stresses (that we all identify with!) took centre stage for 5 Auckland shows only, at this year’s Festival.
In People, Simon juxtaposed unlikely combinations in outrageous situations that see the characters interacting with each other, and Simon himself! Old ladies, Columbian drug lords, TV celebrities, small children, farmers to name just a few.
McKinney discovered his unique talents when only 10 years old, keeping his friends and family chuckling. Encouraged by his parents, Simon went onto build a career for himself in comedy which has seen him perform all over New Zealand, and was the inspiration behind the show and in many cases the characters themselves.
20 years in the making, People showcased Simon’s remarkable talents with over 20 characters and voices involved in delightful twists and hysterical transformations, turning them into the superstars he sees them to be.
“Look at these people around you, it really is the greatest show on earth” Simon McKinney’s Dad, c.1988.
“a man who really knows his audience … has a great knack for physical comedy and observational humour” kissmyarts.posterous.com
